Core Connections
Each semester the Core faculty draws up and distributes a list of courses scheduled for the subsequent semester that are connected in some substantial way to the texts that current Core students have been reading, discussing, and writing about. Hence, the list distributed in the fall points out forthcoming spring courses that are related to fall readings, and the list distributed in the spring points out forthcoming fall courses that are related to readings throughout the entire preceding year.
These lists serve as a reminder that a college education should be built upon—and should construct—a web of connections that tie together the various strands of learning and experience that provide the conditions for personal, social, and practical as well as intellectual, aesthetic, and moral development. By highlighting at least some of the connections that students could choose to forge, Core Connections serves as a useful reminder of the foundational character of learning that takes place in Core.
